The Management Team

Bob Long

Bob Long is a mechanical engineer, specialising in thermal energy management. Entering the world of industrial cooling more than 50 years ago, he has been at the sharp end of technological development for many years, and has contributed many innovative solutions. E.g. Flash freezing technology for blood plasma, “Sushi” for Japanese markets, high efficiency commercial and industrial heat pumps, and many more too numerous to mention.  He is a Fellow of the Institute of Refrigeration, and continues to play a strong role in this profession at multiple levels. He owns and operates an engineering company "Coolideas Ltd",  engaged in the engineering of solutions for a wide array of refrigeration applications. “EnergiVault” is the result of many years research and development, to provide a technology capable of integrating thermal energy demand with the peaks and hollows of green energy production. Bob is a founding member of “Ice Bank Ltd”. Bob holds an HND is marine engineering from Liverpool John Moore and an M.Sc. from Exeter. He is also director of “Natural Energy Wyre Ltd”, a tidal energy power generation start-up, hopefully to become the first of its kind in UK. Bob and Jonathan, hold the patent-rights to EnergiVault thermal banking technology.

Geoff Barker

Geoff Barker is a new business specialist who has spent more than 25 years developing new heating, cooling and local generation businesses, including thermal storage, residential heat pumps, boilers and microCHP and smart heating controls. During this time, he has worked for several companies underpinning new product-based ventures through structured analysis of markets, their trends and drivers, value propositions and routes to market. Geoff has helped many businesses secure funding including venture capital, institutional investment and private equity, through his knowledge of demand side energy technologies and their relationship to energy supply markets and the fundamental market insight required as part of a business plan.

Geoff obtained a BEng (Hons) in mechanical engineering from the University of Liverpool and an MSc in engineering management from Bristol University, he is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Chartered Engineer.

David Grundy

David is a finance expert, having spent 25 years as a Chartered Accountant at Grant Thornton.  His core activity focused on corporate mergers & acquisitions, fundraising and flotations, and he also undertook several senior management roles, including National Head of Transaction Services and North West Managing Partner.  For the last 8 years David has been operating as a portfolio corporate adviser, advising and investing in a range of business, with a particular focus on early stage and scale-up businesses; services provided include strategic planning, fundraising, corporate governance, financial management and stakeholder management.  In addition to EnergiVault, roles have included NED at a listed retail energy company, chairman of an insurance business, NED and CFO at a private-equity funded software business, and director of a tidal energy start-up.

Jonathan Steven

Jonathan is an Earth Scientist and Environmental Engineer with 30 years of technical and managerial experience in the UK Waterwell Industry working with several water supply drilling companies. During the last 15 years he has been active in the development of the UK’s low enthalpy geothermal sector, setting up both a ground source heat pump installation company and a niche thermogeology consultancy with interests in Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES) and minewater heat extraction. His understanding of the cooling energy potential of heat pumps and chillers has brought him into the thermal energy storage sector. As a founder member of Icebank Ltd, he has had a key role in the development of EnergiVault technology. Jonathan has a BSc (Hons) in Geology from Durham and an MSc in Hydrogeology from UCL. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of London.
